Facilities at Serendipity
The House
Serendipity has been completely refurbished in the last few years to ensure we can offer all the modern comforts and facilities you would expect. However, we’ve made sure that it still retains its traditional Sri Lankan style.
The front verandah, which can be used as a working, dining and relaxation space, offers an ‘infinity garden’ effect, looking across to the lush woodland opposite.
Although there are plenty of opportunities to catch the sun, our guest bedrooms are all sheltered from direct sunlight, helping to keep them cool even on the warmest of evenings.
The Garden
You can expect to see many natural local visitors, from peacocks and other exotic birdlife, to squirrels, chameleons, iguanas, and even the occasional monkey swinging in the trees nearby. We’re surrounded by cinnamon plantations, paddy fields and a variety of jungle trees, all adding to the calm rural ambience.
The garden boasts a vast array of trees, fruits, vegetables and spices, being cultivated to support our own kitchen and allow us to offer a seasonal selection of fresh organic food to our guests.
The Pool
Our beautiful swimming pool will undoubtedly enhance your stay with us – offering a place to cool down from the heat of the Sri Lankan sun, and get some healthy exercise into the bargain. It also has some attractive lighting features if you fancy a night-time dip.
The Bathrooms
We have two modern bathrooms, one inside and one outside. Both have a sink, a shower, a mirror and a flush toilet. Hot water is provided for both from a solar-powered water heater.
Most guests enjoy using our outdoor shower to wash and freshen up in a natural environment beneath the rays of the Sri Lankan sun or in the glow of the romantic moonlight. As the sparkling water streams across your body, you can watch exotic birds flitting between the trees above – or maybe look out for some fruit bats as they fly overhead at dusk. This can be a great way to start or end your day in paradise!
The Massage Hut
Our massage and meditation ‘hut’ contains a custom-made massage table, should you wish us to bring in a qualified local masseur, who is on-call to enhance your stay with a vigorous rub down or relaxing ayurvedic treatment.
The room has large airy windows looking out on our beautiful garden and across a panorama of jungle trees. They’re also fitted with locally-made bamboo blinds to ensure your privacy when required.
Decorated to offer an air of serenity and relaxation, this space can also be used for meditation or yoga, whatever your spiritual or physical desire or yearning may be.
Food, Drink and Kitchen
Our food and drinks menu can be tailored to suit your own particular preferences and tastes. As well as our inclusive breakfast, we have a versatile lunch and dinner menu for whenever required, or we can arrange for a tuk-tuk to drop you at one of the many eateries in town or along the local beaches.
Bikes, Tuk Tuks and Tours
Dilshan, our housekeeper and main driver, can offer transport around the local area in his sturdy tuk-tuk.
Popular local destinations include the beaches at Weligama and Mirissa and the major towns of Matara and Galle (with its magnificent old Fort). These are all easily within reach by tuk-tuk, bus or train.
We’re very happy to assist in the organisation of tours and trips such as safaris, boat trips and visits to other attractions. These can be undertaken by tuk tuk or by car, as appropriate.
We have two bikes available that you may wish to use for local travel and sightseeing. Motor scooters can be hired in Weligama town. For longer or more comfortable journeys, we can organise a car to take you about if required.
